Denning & Dreiling Families
1763

Catherine the Great issues manifestos inviting Germans & other Europeans to settle in Russia along the Volga River

1766

Martin Denning & Frank Dreiling families settle in Louis, Russia

1788

Both families move to Herzog, Russia

1871

Imperial Russian government issues decree repealing manifestos of Catherine the Great

1876

Michae Denning & Michael Dreiling families immigrate to the United States via the SS Mosel ship

1941

All 300,00 Volga Germans were loaded on trains & shipped to northeast Russia and Siberia to work in forced labor camps

1953

German POWs were released

1956

Volga German Russian citizens were released from labor camps and given passports that allowed them to stay only 3 days in any one location

Because of the risks & decision our ancestors made by coming to the United States our lives are significantly better than what they would have been in Russia.
